Dr. Andre Hugo
Dr. Andre’ Hugo qualified as an orthodontist at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1983, where his undergraduate dental training was also completed in 1978 with distinctions in orthodontics and prosthetic dentistry. Dr. Hugo was awarded the Bronze medal of the DASA for the best final year dental student in orthodontics.
Dr. Hugo has been a member of SASO (South African Society of Orthodontics) and in full-time private practice for the past 38 years and has been involved in postgraduate orthodontic training at his alma mater.
Dr. Hugo developed a lingual orthodontic technique, in conjunction with Dr. Ziegfried Weber, which they have presented at lectures and one and two-day hands-on courses in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Brussels, Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Hamburg.
Dr. Hugo has co-authored articles published in the European Journal of Orthodontics and the International Journal of Dentofacial Orthopedics. Dr. Hugo has produced a lingual manual for teaching purposes, with contributions by Professor Johan Reyneke and Dr. Ziegfried Weber.
Numerous orthodontic auxiliaries have been developed by Dr. Hugo and are published in a chapter of Professor Kim Mizrahi’s textbook, “Orthodontic Pearls”.
Periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO) has proven to be a very exciting and viable option in Dr. Hugo’s practice. Together with Dr. Andreas Siebold, lectures on this topic have been presented at SASO, SASPIO (South African Society for Periodontics, Implantology, and Oral Medicine), and Nomads.
Together with Dr. Hermann Kluge MFOS (Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeon) lectures have been presented at SASO and SASMFOS (South African Society of MFOS) on the advantages of PAOO and utilizing the Rapid Acceleratory phenomenon in Orthognathic Surgical Orthodontics.
Dr. Hugo has a special interest in technology and has collaborated with Christopher Kerr-Peterson MBA (GSB), Bcom PPE (UCT), BA Art Direction (AAA), who has developed a comprehensive, integrated orthodontic treatment and practice management system.
Aligner treatment is a special interest of Dr. Hugo’s and he has completed the prestigious TAIF (The Aligner Intensive Fellowship), and the COIP (Clear Ortho International Program), which are both highly regarded Advanced Aligner courses. Dr Hugo and his amazing team have developed their own in-house aligner system (Hugo Aligners), which enhances the clinical treatment coordination and efficiency of aligners in our practice.
Dr. Hugo’s other interests include African wildlife, reading, snorkeling, motorcycling, and flying.
Dr. Yuvthi Rampersadh
Dr Yuvthi Rampersadh joined Hugo Orthodontics following the completion of her specialist orthodontic training (MDent Orthodontics) at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. With a strong academic background and a passion for precision, she has a fresh yet deeply considered approach to patient care.
Yuvthi’s journey in dentistry began at the University of Pretoria, where she completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree and earned numerous accolades—including the SADA Medal for Leadership and a Top 10 class ranking. Her postgraduate studies include a Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry (cum laude), a Master of Sciences degree in Orthodontics (cum laude), and a PDD in Interceptive Orthodontics. She has also passed the Primary Exam (Part 1) in Orthodontics through the College of Medicine of South Africa.
She has served on both the SADA Branch Committee and the Paedodontic Society of South Africa’s committee, and she is passionate about mentorship, advocacy, and advancing the profession. Her clinical interests include early interceptive orthodontics, aesthetic treatment planning, and comprehensive multidisciplinary care.
Outside of the practice, Yuvthi is a wife to a dentist-turned-lawyer and mother to a strong-willed little girl who keeps her on her toes. While she once bungee-jumped off Victoria Falls and holds a scuba diving license, these days she enjoys popcorn movie nights, cheering on her daughter’s impromptu ballet and gymnastics “performances” in the lounge, and staying active by chasing her weekly exercise goals — always aspiring to beat her husband’s never-ending fitness streak. When time and energy allow, you might even find her singing karaoke with close friends and family.
Dr. Nischal Daya
Dr Daya graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2014 with a Bachelor of Dental Science degree. He went on to establish his own private practice in 2015, where he spent over a decade building his clinical experience and developing a particular passion for orthodontics.
His interest in orthodontics began early in his career, leading him to pursue further training through Progressive Orthodontic Seminars, which he completed in 2020. Throughout his years in private practice, Dr Daya developed a special interest in managing complex orthodontic cases, particularly those involving impacted teeth. His approach to patient care extends beyond clinical treatment, with an emphasis on understanding each patient's individual needs, building meaningful relationships and making a positive difference in their confidence and quality of life. His enthusiasm for orthodontics is rooted in the unique combination of precision, problem-solving and the opportunity to create lasting, life-changing results.
Outside of dentistry, Dr Daya is an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast who has summited Mount Kilimanjaro and tackled some of South Africa's most challenging hiking trails, including Amatola, Otter trail and Fish River Canyon to name a few — activities he somehow considers a way to relax and unwind.
Despite living in the city, he is a country bumpkin at heart, happily embracing smallholding life, growing his own fresh produce and sharing his space with two energetic Border Collies who undoubtedly believe they run the property.
When he isn't navigating mountain trails or tending to his vegetable garden, you'll likely find him tackling his latest DIY project around the property in the pursuit of self-sufficiency, with his wife serving as his trusty assistant — although whether she volunteered for the position remains open to debate.
His philosophy is simple: straighten the teeth, and the smile will straighten out everything else.
